Metrovalencia is Valencia’s urban rail network, blending rapid transit, light rail, and trams to serve the city and its surrounding areas. It operates under Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) and uses a mix of lines that connect the city center with the suburbs.

The network currently has 10 lines in total: 6 rapid-transit lines (L1, L2, L3, L5, L7, L9) and 4 tram lines (L4, L6, L8, L10). It covers about 161.7 km, with 29.8 km underground and 131.3 km at surface level. There are 146 stations, of which 38 are underground. Trains run on metre gauge tracks (1,000 mm) and use overhead electrification in two voltages (750 V DC and 1,500 V DC).

Metrovalencia began as a project to unify Valencia’s former FEVE suburban railways. It opened in stages: the system started operation in 1988, lines were reorganized into the Valencia Tram in 1994, and it became MetroValencia in 1995. Some lines use automatic train operation in about 25.3 km of underground track. The tram lines (4, 6, 8, 10) use modern tram vehicles.

Signage is bilingual, in Valencian and Spanish. In 2022, fare zones were simplified to two, and 21 stations were renamed to reflect Valencian naming conventions. Line 10 began service in 2022, expanding the network’s reach.

Ridership has been strong, with about 190,000 weekday riders on average in 2019 and roughly 91.1 million annual riders reported for 2025. The system faced disruptions from floods in late 2024 but gradually returned to full service.
