Merrimac F.C.
Merrimac Football Club is a soccer club from Merrimac on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It was founded in 1978 as Merrimac International Football Club to reflect its Italian heritage. The team plays at Fairway Drive in Clear Island Waters and is owned by The Gold Coast Italo-Australian Club. Historically, Merrimac was one of the leading clubs in the Gold Coast Premier League, but it has not fielded a senior men’s team since 2017. In 2020, ex-professional footballer Chris Cahill, who captained the Samoa national team, took over the club. Today, Merrimac mainly runs programs for kids aged 5 to 11, for both boys and girls. It is one of three Italian-Australian backed clubs in South East Queensland, along with Brisbane City and AC Carina.
