Meitetsu 3300 and 3150 series: a quick overview

- What they are: Commuter electric trains operated by Meitetsu in Japan since 2004. The 3300 series is a four-car set, while the 3150 series is built as two-car sets. Both series are based on the earlier 300 series and use stainless steel bodies.

- Key specs (both series): 19-meter cars, three door pairs per side, stainless steel construction, maximum speed 130 km/h, 1,500 V DC overhead power, 1,067 mm track gauge, single-arm pantograph, and Meitetsu ATS safety system.

- 3300 series (four-car sets): Built by Nippon Sharyo in Toyokawa, Aichi. 28 cars were built (7 sets) and five four-car sets were in service as of 2015. First introduced in 2004. Two motored cars and two non-powered cars per set. Notable liveries included sets 3303 and 3304 (decorated in 2015 to mark Tokugawa Ieyasu’s 400th anniversary, with four-season vinyls). Additional deliveries included 3306 in January 2015 and 3307 in August 2015; some liveries were revised for newer sets.

- 3150 series (two-car sets): Built by Nippon Sharyo, 36 cars (18 sets) were built, with 32 cars (16 sets) in service as of 2015. Each set has one driving motor car (Mc) and one driving trailer car (Tc). Early sets use transverse seating with some longitudinal seating; later sets (from 3155 onward) have longitudinal seating throughout. Two sets (3167 and 3168) were delivered in 2015 with revised liveries.
