Marko Kantele
Marko Kantele (born 24 August 1968) is a Finnish darts player who competes in PDC and WDF events. He started playing darts in 1989 and hails from Mäntyharju, Finland, now based in Vääksy. He is right-handed and uses a set of 18-gram darts.
Kantele’s major debut came at the World Masters in 1997, where he defeated defending champion Colin Monk in round one before losing to Mark Day. He reached the World Masters last 16 in 1997 and again in 2004. He played in the BDO World Darts Championship in 2005 after winning the Finland qualifier, beating Tony O’Shea in the first round and then losing to Simon Whitlock in the second round.
In 2009, Kantele qualified for the PDC World Darts Championship, becoming Finland’s first-ever representative at the event. He won his preliminary match against Lourence Ilagan but fell to Ronnie Baxter in the first round. He has represented Finland in the World Cup of Darts several times, partnering with players such as Petri Korte (2012) and Kim Viljanen (2015, 2016, 2017).
His notable regional achievements include winning the 2014 Swedish Pro Tour event and the 2015 Scandinavian Darts Corporation Pro Tour final. In 2024, he won the Irish Open. He earned a PDC Tour Card for 2019–2020 after finishing second on the European Q-School Order of Merit, allowing him to compete more regularly in PDC events.
