Thule Islands
Thule Islands are a small group of islands and rocks about 0.5 km southwest of Balin Point in the northwestern part of Borge Bay, Signy Island, in the South Orkney Islands off Antarctica. They are located at 60°42′S 45°37′W and have no permanent population. The name "Thule Rocks" appears in early sources from 1916 and is linked to this group. The Thule was a whaling factory ship from Oslo that operated in the South Orkney Islands in 1912–13 and 1913–14, and it anchored on the east side of Signy Island in January 1913. The name was later changed to Thule Islands on the recommendation of the UK Antarctic Place-names Committee after a Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1947.
