Me, Myself & I (Jive Jones song)
Me, Myself & I is a 2001 novelty pop song by American musician JIVEjones. It was released on August 14, 2001 as the lead single from his debut album, Me, Myself & I. The track runs 3:31 and was written by JIVEjones with Dave Katz and Chris Lindsey, with Jones and Katz producing. Described as a heady mix of pop, hip hop, funk, electronic and rock, the song features sound effects that nod to early 1990s music.
The music video, directed by Nigel Dick, received airplay on MTV and the song was included on Now That's What I Call Music! 8. In the United States, it reached the top 40 on the Radio & Records contemporary hit radio chart. Internationally, it charted in the UK (peaking at 77) and the Netherlands (peaking at 12 on the Dutch Single Top 100 and 13 on the Dutch Top 40). The UK release included the Terminalhead remix, which drew comparisons to Josh Wink’s Higher State of Consciousness.
JIVEjones began making music at age 12 and spent his teen years in Miami’s club scene, where he connected with the industry and later wrote and produced for artists such as Mandy Moore, Anastacia and Biohazard. After an early profile suggested his debut album would appear in 2001, he signed with Jive Records in April 2001 and released the lead single that August. The track’s “New & Noteworthy” status in Billboard highlighted its catchy hooks, even as critics have since viewed its inclusion on Now 8 as an odd choice given its US chart performance.
The single's B-side is “Like This.”
