Max Kämper (16 December 1879 – 10 November 1916) was a German mining engineer born in Jüterbog, Germany. In 1908 he conducted a survey and created a map of Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, with cave guide Ed Bishop; this was the first accurate instrumental survey of parts of the cave. He arrived at Mammoth Cave in 1908 and left eight months later in 1909. Kämper died in trench warfare on 10 November 1916 at Sailly-Saillisel, France, during the Battle of the Somme. He is buried in the Cambrai War Cemetery near Arras, France.
