Maurice Ewing Medal
Two international geophysical societies award medals named after Maurice Ewing each year: the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).
AGU’s Maurice Ewing Medal honors people who have made significant original contributions to understanding ocean physics, geophysics, and geology; who advance oceanographic engineering, technology, or instrumentation; or who have provided outstanding service to marine sciences. It was first awarded in 1974 and is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Navy.
SEG’s Maurice Ewing Medal is SEG’s highest honor, awarded to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to both the science and the profession of exploration geophysics.
