Piptothrix is a small genus of plants from Central America. It belongs to the sunflower family (Asteraceae), in the Eupatorieae tribe. The genus Piptothrix A.Gray includes the type species Piptothrix palmeri A.Gray. In full classification, it is placed in Plantae, Tracheophyta, Angiosperms, Eudicots, Asterids, order Asterales, subfamily Asteroideae, family Asteraceae. Piptothrix is related to other genera in Eupatorieae, such as Ageratina.
