Matt Johnson (born November 6, 1970, in Houston, Texas) is an American drummer best known for his work with Jeff Buckley. He played on Buckley’s 1994 album Grace, appeared on live releases and EPs, and co-wrote one song. He left Buckley before Buckley’s final original album, Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk, but still has a co-writing credit on one track. Johnson has collaborated with many artists, including Duncan Sheik, Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Beth Orton and Jade Bird. He toured with St. Vincent from 2011 to 2019. He has released two solo albums, Cagefighter and Law of the Land, and has performed with Angus & Julia Stone and with Eric J Dubowsky in the NYC band Essex.
