Marvin Emnes
Marvin Renato Emnes (born 27 May 1988) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a striker or winger. He was born in Rotterdam and, after playing as a sprinter in youth, joined Sparta Rotterdam’s academy in 1997. He turned professional with Sparta in 2005 and quickly became a fan favourite, earning Sparta Fans’ Player of the Year for 2007–08.
In 2008 he moved to Middlesbrough for about €4 million. At Boro he could play anywhere along the front line, but first‑team opportunities were limited. He had loan spells with Swansea City in 2010 and again in 2014, before signing permanently with Swansea in 2014. He stayed there until 2017 and spent the 2016–17 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, returning to Blackburn again briefly in 2017.
In 2017 Emnes joined Akhisar Belediyespor in Turkey, then moved to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2018, where he did not appear in league play. He later joined Ravenna in Italy in 2021, playing in Serie C.
Internationally, Emnes represented the Netherlands at several youth levels. He played for the U17 team that finished third at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship and for the U21s at the 2007 Toulon Tournament, where the team finished runners-up. He is of Surinamese descent and grew up supporting Ajax. He has a daughter. In 2013 he was fined for speeding.
