Marcus Williams (tight end)
Marcus A. Williams Jr. (born December 12, 1977) is a former American football tight end who played in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders in 2002. He was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in Berkeley, attending Berkeley High School. He began his college career at Laney College in Oakland in 1997, then transferred to Washington State University, where he played as a wide receiver and had 61 receptions for 1,086 yards and eight touchdowns over 1999–2000.
Williams went undrafted in 2001 but was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent and released in August. The Oakland Raiders added him to their practice squad in December 2001. In 2002 he spent time with NFL Europe, first with the Amsterdam Admirals and then the Frankfurt Galaxy, due to a back injury.
Returning to the NFL, Williams signed with the Raiders on September 28, 2002, and appeared in 14 games, mostly on special teams, recording 11 special-teams tackles. He was placed on injured reserve on January 23, 2003. In August 2003, during training camp, teammate Bill Romanowski punched him, breaking his left eye socket and chipping a tooth. Williams sued Romanowski and was awarded $340,000 in March 2005, with an additional $75,000 paid later that year.
