Subprefecture of Pinheiros
Subprefecture of Pinheiros is one of 32 subprefectures in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is in the West Administrative Zone and includes four districts: Pinheiros, Alto de Pinheiros, Itaim Bibi, and Jardim Paulista. The area covers 32.06 square kilometers and had about 233,563 residents in 2008. Its Human Development Index is 0.956, considered very high.
Pinheiros is the most affluent subprefecture and contains two of the city’s five financial districts, including Avenida Paulista, as well as many important museums. The neighborhoods Vila Madalena and Vila Olímpia are known for nightlife. The region also features many upper-class residential areas.
Many companies have offices there, including AmBev, Vivo, Rede Globo (headquartered in Rio de Janeiro), and Grupo Pão de Açúcar, along with multinational companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo!, Santander, Ernst & Young, Unilever, Nextel, and Bunge.
Geraldo Mantovani is the subprefect.
