John Thomas Ness (1871–1947) was an Australian politician from New South Wales. He was born in Young, the son of shipbuilder Thomas Ness and Isabella Sellars. After public schooling, he farmed wheat at Temora from about 1894 to 1904. He married Bertha Mary Ann Matuschka in New Zealand on 1 January 1898, and they had four children. In 1904 he started a produce and fuel business, later forming John Ness, Son & Co.

From 1909 to 1934 he was president of the Dulwich Hill School of Arts. He also served on Marrickville Council from 1908 to 1922, including terms as mayor in 1915–17 and 1918–19.

In 1922 Ness was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as a Nationalist for Western Suburbs. After single-member districts were reintroduced in 1927, he was elected to represent Dulwich Hill. He was defeated in 1930, but re-elected in 1932 as a United Australia Party member, serving until 1938. He died in Dulwich Hill in 1947.
