Mammalian (film)
Mammalian (2010) is a Canadian documentary directed by Frank Wolf. It follows Wolf and Taku Hokoyama on a 2,000-kilometre canoe journey through North America’s largest wilderness, from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories to Rankin Inlet in Nunavut. Along the way, they encounter Arctic wolves, witness the caribou migration, and see musk ox. The trip even captures footage of a rare creature not previously thought to exist in northern Canada. The filmmakers also meet politicians, First Nations leaders, elders, and other residents to show the land’s challenges for wildlife and people. Mammalian won Best Environment Film at the 2011 Kendal Mountain Festival and was listed among the Vancouver International Film Festival’s Top Ten Canadian Films in 2010. It aired on CBC’s documentary channel in Canada several times through 2013.
