Eduardo Sánchez (baseball)
Eduardo Nazareth Sánchez (born February 16, 1989) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball pitcher. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a free agent in 2005 and played in MLB for the Cardinals (2011–2012) and the Chicago Cubs (2013). Right-handed, he throws a fastball and slider that can reach up to 97 mph.
Sánchez made his MLB debut on April 13, 2011, with the Cardinals and his last appearance on August 13, 2013, with the Cubs. His career MLB record is 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA and 53 strikeouts.
In the minors, Sánchez progressed through the Cardinals’ system. He began in 2006 with the VSL Cardinals, earning his first win that season. By 2009 he split between Palm Beach and Springfield, posting strong numbers (82 strikeouts, 13 saves, 2.28 ERA in 75 innings). He was named the Cardinals’ Minor League Reliever of the Year by Scout.com and was listed as a top prospect by MLB.com.
In 2011 he debuted in the majors against the Diamondbacks and earned his first major league save on April 27, 2011, versus the Astros. In 2013 he started the season with Memphis, was claimed off waivers by the Cubs in May, designated for assignment in September, and finished the year in the minors with Iowa before becoming a free agent.
