The Mallock U2 is a lightweight front‑engined race car built by Major Arthur Mallock and later his son Richard. The first U2 cars, Mk1, were sold as kits in 1958, and by about 1969 the line was known as Mallock U2. It was designed to race as a single‑seater (like Formula Junior) and, with mudguards, in sportscar events. In the mid‑1960s a UK series for Lotus 7–type cars, called Clubmans, included the Mallock U2.

The U2 was versatile and used in Formula Junior, Formula Ford, and Formula Three. Its chassis was a steel tubular spaceframe, and it was later fitted with a De Dion rear axle in 1972. It was very light, weighing about 948 lb (430 kg). It used a range of four‑cylinder engines over the years, including a 1,172 cc Ford Sidevalve, a 997 cc Ford Kent, a 1,100 cc BMC A‑series, and even 1.5–1.6 L Ford‑Cosworth SCA/FVA engines. The power drove the rear wheels through a 4‑speed Ford manual gearbox to a live rear axle with an offset differential, made from halves of a Morris Minor axle and an Austin A30 axle.
