Mach Song
Mach Song (Mạch Sống, meaning “Life Stream”) is a national monthly bilingual Vietnamese–English newspaper based in Houston, Texas. It has about 75,000 readers in 15 U.S. cities and is published by Boat People SOS, a national Vietnamese American nonprofit organization.
Through more than 100 media partners, Mach Song Monthly can reach roughly half of the Vietnamese households in the United States, especially in areas with large Vietnamese communities. With its own mass and small media, it reaches about a quarter of Vietnamese households, focusing on groups not reached by partners. The newspaper also works with local faith and community organizations to reach deeper into communities, having partnered with over 200 groups and with the capacity to reach up to 1,000 organizations nationwide.
Boat People SOS has invested over $1 million to build its Vietnamese-language media network, which includes Mach Song, radio programs, and television programs.
After disasters, Mach Song increased its circulation to help those in need: following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it printed 50,000 extra copies for six months, and it did a similar circulation boost after Hurricane Ike in 2008.
