London Buses route 120
London Buses route 120 is a Transport for London bus line running from Northolt tube station to Hounslow bus station. It travels via Yeading, Southall, Norwood Green and Lampton.
Key points
- Operator: Metroline, based at Lampton garage.
- History: The route started on 27 January 1926, originally linking Southall to Hounslow Heath with later extensions to Feltham and Hayes on some trips.
- 120 and 120A: Different termini were shown with suffixes until 1938 when 120 was reinstated on weekdays.
- Mid‑20th century changes: Various extensions and diversions occurred, including a Beavers Farm Estate loop and changes to Staines Road.
- 1955 changes: Much of 120A’s service was taken over by route 232; 120A was gradually withdrawn.
- 1993–1994: 120 was extended to Northolt to replace part of 232, and in 1994 it became the first UK route to run entirely on low-floor, accessible buses (10 Wright Pathfinder Dennis Lance SLFs entered service on 29 January 1994).
- Later contracts: The route has been re-tendered, with London United operating under a contract starting in June 2005 and a new contract in 2012 using newer buses (Scania OmniCitys and Alexander Dennis Enviro400s).
