Luis Bethelmy
Luis Miguel Bethelmy Villarroel (born October 14, 1986) is a Venezuelan professional basketball player who plays as a power forward for Piratas de Los Lagos in the Liga BásquetPro and for the Venezuela national team. He is nicknamed "the Tsunami."
Club career
Bethelmy began his professional career in 2007 with Cocodrilos de Caracas. Over the years he has played for several teams across the region, including Ángeles de Puebla, Halcones Rojos Veracruz, Guerreros de Bogotá, Guaros de Lara, Indios San Francisco Macoris, Gimnasia y Esgrima (Comodoro Rivadavia), Defensor Sporting, Centauros de Portuguesa, and Cocodrilos de Caracas again. In 2023 he joined Piratas de Los Lagos.
National team career
He made his senior international debut for Venezuela in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship. Bethelmy has represented Venezuela at the Pan American Games in 2015 and 2019, and also played in the 2009 and 2013 FIBA Americas Championships. He made his FIBA Basketball World Cup debut with Venezuela in 2019, a tournament where Venezuela finished 14th.
Honors
Bethelmy has earned gold medals with Venezuela at the South American Basketball Championship (2014 and 2016) and bronze in 2008.
