Michael Pocalyko
Michael N. Pocalyko (born December 24, 1954) is an American businessman and writer. He is the CEO and managing director of Monticello Capital, a boutique investment bank in Chantilly, Virginia that focuses on high‑tech and green industries. He is recognized as a Sarbanes-Oxley audit committee financial expert and has chaired several corporate audit committees. His novel The Navigator, a financial thriller, was published in 2013.
Born in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, Pocalyko graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1976. He earned a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School in 1985 and an MBA from the Wharton School in 1995. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1995, becoming a naval aviator and later taking on roles that included special intelligence missions.
In 1997 he joined Monticello Capital as a managing director. He has served on numerous corporate boards, including chairing audit committees, and has been involved with public policy and Virginia state economic development efforts. In 1999 he ran for the Virginia House of Delegates as a Republican in Reston, but he was defeated by incumbent Ken Plum.
Pocalyko has published essays and papers on defense, international affairs, and governance, and he has contributed to public discourse as a writer. He has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has engaged in various think-tank and policy activities.
In 2014 he founded Special Investigations Limited Company, a government contractor focused on investigations, intelligence, and cyber work. By 2023 the firm had received several small awards from the U.S. Department of Commerce, but it also faced criticism related to a controversial case in Saudi Arabia.
Personal life: Pocalyko has been married to Barbara Snelbaker Pocalyko since 1976 and they have two children. He lives in Reston, Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley. He has served as president of the Cosmos Club.
