Ludwigslust (district)
Ludwigslust District was a district in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Its capital was Ludwigslust. It covered 2,517 square kilometers and had about 122,564 residents as of 31 December 2010. The population density was around 48.7 people per square kilometer. It bordered Nordwestmecklenburg, the city of Schwerin, Parchim, Prignitz (Brandenburg), Lüchow-Dannenberg and Lüneburg (Lower Saxony), and Lauenburg (Schleswig-Holstein). The district was dissolved in September 2011 during a district reform and became part of the new Ludwigslust-Parchim district. It was the largest district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern by area before the reform, but was sparsely populated. After German reunification, Hagenow and Ludwigslust were formed as districts; in 1994 they merged with Rastow and Stralendorf from Schwerin-Land to create the enlarged Ludwigslust district. In 2011 it merged with Parchim to form Ludwigslust-Parchim. The vehicle registration code was LWL.
