Loricaria birindellii
Loricaria birindellii is a species of armored catfish found only in Brazil. It lives in freshwater rivers in the Xingu River basin in Pará state. The fish is a ray-finned fish and belongs to the family Loricariidae and the subfamily Loricariinae.
It was first described in 2010 by scientists Matthew R. Thomas and Mark H. Sabaj Pérez. The type locality is the Rio Curuá in the Iriri–Xingu drainage, near Castelo dos Sonhos in Pará.
Loricaria birindellii grows up to about 36.5 cm (14.4 in) in length and can weigh up to about 118 g (4.2 oz).
The name birindellii honors Brazilian ichthyologist José Luís O. Birindelli, who led the 2007 expedition that collected the holotype.
Conservation status: Least Concern.
