List of electoral wards in Essex (short version)

Essex is divided into several kinds of wards and divisions used for local elections. The county is governed by Essex County Council, while most towns are organized into district or borough councils. Two areas are unitary authorities, meaning they handle local government differently from the counties: Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock. The bounds and names of wards have changed several times since 1973 due to boundary reviews.

County council wards
- Essex County Council uses electoral divisions to elect county councillors.
- The division boundaries and names have changed over three main periods: 1973/74 to 1981, 1981 to 2005, and 2005 to the present.
- The exact list of divisions varies by period, with many divisions across the county.
