Here is a quick, easy guide to the main peoples in The Saga of Shadows.

The series is a science fiction trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson. The first book, The Dark Between the Stars, was published June 3, 2014.

- The Confederation: Humans have settled many planets in the Spiral Arm. After the old Terran Hanseatic League falls, humanity is united under the Confederation, led by King Peter and Queen Estarra of Theroc.

- Theroc and the green priests: Theroc is home to green priests who can talk with worldtrees by touching treelings. They help spread instantaneous telepathic communication across space.

- The Roamers: Clans of humans who once lived on the fringes of space. They now join the Confederation and trade in valuable stardrive fuel called ekti, among other goods, while trying to keep their independence and culture.

- The Ildiran Empire: A peaceful, ancient alien empire that has existed for over ten thousand years. They live through the thism, a shared mental link. Each Ildiran has a soulthread, and their leader, the Mage-Imperator, weaves these threads. The Ildirans have a caste-based society with different suffixes and physical differences. They were the first aliens humans meet and share their stardrive technology with humans.
