Lilia Dizon
Lilia Dizon (Claire Dizon Strauss; November 25, 1927 – June 15, 2020) was a Filipino actress whose career spanned about three decades. She was a leading star in the 1950s and won Best Actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival for Kandilerong Pilak (1954).
Personal life and background:
She was the daughter of Regina Dizon, a Filipina, and Abraham "Abe" Strauss, an American of German Jewish descent. At age 15, after World War II, she and her mother moved to Manila. She began acting in theater under the name Carol Strauss.
Marriages and children:
She first married LVN Pictures actor Gil de León, with whom she had three children who also became actors: Pinky de León, Christopher de León, and Melissa de León. Later, she married Antonio V. Abad and had two daughters, Toni Abad and Cori Abad. She retired from show business in the 1980s.
Selected filmography:
Dizon appeared in many Filipino films from 1946 onward, including Probinsiyana (1946), Kandilerong Pilak (1954) for which she won Best Actress, and The Moises Padilla Story (1961), among others.
Death:
Lilia Dizon died on June 15, 2020, at the age of 92, from complications of metastasis to the lungs. Her remains were cremated, and a wake was held at Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig.
