Lick Creek (Shamokin Creek tributary)
Lick Creek is a small stream in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It is about 2.7 miles (4.3 km) long and drains a watershed of about 2.46 square miles (6.4 km2).
The creek begins on a ridge at an elevation of roughly 960–980 feet and flows east-northeast, then north, picking up several unnamed tributaries. It turns east for a while, receives more unnamed tributaries, and crosses Pennsylvania Route 61 before joining Shamokin Creek about 16 miles upstream of Shamokin Creek’s mouth. The mouth is at about 545 feet (166 m) above sea level.
Lick Creek’s watershed is designated as a Coldwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery and is not impaired. It supports aquatic life and has historically had a healthy aquatic community. There are no named tributaries, only unnamed ones, with at least one intermittent. The creek is not affected by mining and generally remains of high water quality.
