Claude Pagdett Carter (23 April 1881 – 8 November 1952), often known as Claude Paget Carter, was a South African cricketer who played in 10 Test matches from 1912 to 1924.
Carter was a long-time Natal player, starting first-class cricket in 1898 and appearing for Natal from then until 1923, with a season for Transvaal in 1910–11. He also spent time playing club cricket in England (Yorkshire in 1905) and later played in the Lancashire League and for Cornwall in the Minor Counties Championship.
In international cricket, Carter toured England with the South African teams in 1912 and again in 1924. He was South Africa’s leading bowler in the 1921–22 home series against Australia, taking 15 wickets at an average of 21.93.
Carter was a right-handed batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. In Test cricket, he scored 181 runs and took 28 wickets, with his best Test bowling figure of 6/50. In first-class cricket, he played 107 matches, scored 1,333 runs, and took 366 wickets, with a best of 7/37.
He passed away in Durban, Natal, at the age of 71.
