Lia Cirio
Lia Cirio is an American ballet dancer and a principal at Boston Ballet. She is half Filipino and trained at Swarthmore Ballet Theatre and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. At 16 she joined Boston Ballet II, then moved to the main company’s corps in 2004 and was nominated for the Princess Grace Award that same year. She was promoted to second soloist in 2006 and to soloist in 2007. Cirio spent 2008–09 with the Trey McIntyre Project, touring in the United States and around the world, before returning to Boston Ballet for the 2009–10 season and being named a principal in 2010. She has danced major roles such as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and the title role in Cinderella. Cirio has also choreographed work for Boston Ballet’s ChoreograpHER initiative. She is the older sister of Jeffrey Cirio, a Lead Principal Dancer at English National Ballet, and together they started Cirio Collective in 2015. With Boston Ballet she has a wide repertoire of leading roles.
