Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags basketball
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags men's basketball team represents Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California. They compete in NCAA Division III as part of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). Home games are played at Roberts Pavilion, which seats about 2,200. The Stags’ colors are Cardinal and Gold, and the team is coached by Ken Scalmanini.
The program began in 1958. Under Scalmanini, CMS has won nine conference titles in 18 seasons, including four straight from 2009 to 2013. Former coach David Wells guided CMS to its first NCAA Tournament win in 1996.
CMS is a combined team from Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, and Scripps College, competing in Division III within the SCIAC.
Postseason and championships: The Stags have appeared in the NCAA Division III Tournament 14 times, with a 4–14 all-time record. They have reached the Round of 32 in 1996, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Their conference success includes seven SCIAC tournament championships (2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2024) and multiple regular-season titles over the years, including years such as 1966, 1967, 1970, 1972, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1996, 2002, 2006, 2009–2012, 2014–2015, and 2017–2018.
