Kursaal of Algeciras
The Kursaal of Algeciras is a cultural building on Paseo del Rio de la Miel in Algeciras, Spain. It was designed by artist Guillermo Pérez Villalta and architect Enrique Salvo and opened in 2007 after about ten years of work. It was first planned in the late 1990s as the seat of the Chamber of Commerce of Gibraltar, but the project paused until the city council finished it.
The building is famous for its decorative details, especially many mosaics with mythological themes from the Strait of Gibraltar area. Its lighthouse-style tower can be reached by an internal spiral staircase. Inside, the Kursaal houses the main auditorium for the council and a library.
It is the permanent home of relations between the Maghreb and the Dos Orillas Foundation (Two Shores Foundation), a provincial government agency that promotes cultural ties across the Strait of Gibraltar through activities.
