Kresnice
Kresnice (pronounced kres-NEE-tse) is a small settlement in central Slovenia, on the right bank of the Sava River in the Municipality of Litija. It belongs to the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now in the Central Sava Statistical Region (it was part of Central Slovenia until 2014). The area covers 2.7 square kilometers, sits at about 295 meters above sea level, and had a population of 670 in 2002. The postal code is 1274. The name appears in records from around 1261 in various spellings and likely refers to a place where summer solstice bonfires were held. The local parish church is dedicated to Saint Benedict, dates to the early 19th century, and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ljubljana. The German name for the settlement is Kreßnitz.
