Kofi Owusu Boahene is a Ghanaian-born American doctor, writer, researcher, and academic. He is a professor of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a facial plastic surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He focuses on surgery of the face, head, and neck.

Boahene is the eldest of eight children. He grew up in a modest area of North Kaneshie, Accra. His parents, Pastor and Mrs. James Owusu, ran a small pharmacy before becoming full-time missionaries in the early 1980s. He attended Bubuashie, Datus Preparatory School, and Prempeh College in Kumasi. In 1991, after his A-Levels and a year of national service, he traveled to Russia to study veterinary medicine and learned Russian.

Because of political reasons, he moved to the United States. He earned his medical degree in 1999 from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating with the highest honors. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery in 2004 at the Mayo Clinic. He did a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in 2005 at the University of Minnesota, under Dr. Peter Hilger.

His training covered cosmetic facial surgery, minimally invasive rejuvenation, microvascular and craniofacial surgery, and skull-base surgery for children and adults. He also spent time at the Australia Craniofacial Center in Adelaide.

Boahene is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins. He trains surgical residents and fellows in facial plastic surgery. He serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery and writes exam questions for the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

He is a sought-after speaker at conferences around the world and has published in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. He is known for rhinoplasty and for cosmetic and reconstructive nose surgery across different ethnic groups.

His awards include Alpha Omega Alpha (1993); AACR ethnic scholar in cancer research (1998–1999); Mayo Best Teacher Recognition and the Distinguished Mayo Brothers Fellowship Award. He recently earned the Jack R. Anderson Prize for achieving the highest score on the ABFPRS written and oral exams.

Boahene is involved in tissue-engineering research to improve wound healing, nasal fillers, and to create new cartilage or bone for facial reconstruction. In 2003, he received an international medicine travel grant and has done medical missions in Mexico, Peru, and Ghana.
