Kosi River (Uttarakhand)
Kosi River, also known as Koshi, is a tributary of the Ramganga River in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. It starts from Dharapani Dhar near Kausani and runs about 168 km, draining a basin of around 346 square kilometers. The river flows south past Someshwar and Almora, where it is joined by the Suyal. It then moves west through Khairna, Garampani and Betalghat, turns northwest at Salt Patti, and then southeast after Mohaan, passing Dhikuli to enter the plains at Ramnagar. About 110 km downstream from Ramnagar, it crosses into Uttar Pradesh at Sultanpur and finally joins the Ramganga near Chamraul in Rampur district. Its right-bank tributaries include Suyal, Ramgad, and Bhowaligad. The banks host forests of Kair and Shisham, making the river an important part of the region’s landscape.
