Appearance of impropriety

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Appearance of impropriety means something might look wrong or unethical to someone who doesn’t know all the facts. For example, if an employee handles money for their employer and keeps it in their own wallet before giving it to the employer, this could look like mixing personal and company funds—even if nothing harmful happens. To protect trust, many businesses and legal professionals avoid any actions that could appear improper. Some moral or religious teachings also warn against appearances of evil.
