Kitagō Station
Kitagō Station (Kitagō-eki) is a small passenger railway station in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by JR Kyushu and lies on the Nichinan Line, 32.5 kilometers from Minami-Miyazaki, the line’s starting point. The station has one island platform serving two tracks, plus a siding. The timber station building is built in a log-house style and is unstaffed, mainly serving as a waiting area.
History: The Shibushi Line from Nishi-Miyakonojō to Sueyoshi opened in 1923, and by 1925 the line extended east to Shibushi. The line was extended north in stages, with Kitagō opening as the northern terminus on 28 October 1941. The line was later extended north toward Minami-Miyazaki, and on 8 May 1963 the Shibushi–Kitagō–Minami-Miyazaki section became the Nichinan Line. Freight services ended in 1971 and baggage handling in 1984. After the JNR privatization on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR Kyushu.
Passenger use: In fiscal year 2016, an average of 71 passengers boarded trains daily.
The station remains unstaffed and functions mainly as a waiting area.
