Kinney HRH (Hot Rod Helicopter)
The Kinney HRH is an American single-seat helicopter designed by Robert Kinney and produced by Vortech, Inc as plans for amateur construction. It was first shown at Sun ’n Fun in 2002 and was designed to meet the US experimental – amateur-built rules.
The HRH features a single main rotor, a single-seat enclosed cockpit, and skid-type landing gear. It is powered by a four‑cylinder, air‑cooled, four‑stroke Subaru EJ25 automotive engine producing about 165 horsepower. The fuselage combines welded 4130 steel tube with bolted aluminum tubing and a composite cabin shell.
Rotor and dimensions: The two-bladed Waitman rotor is 25 feet in diameter with an 8-inch chord, and the tail rotor is 46 inches in diameter. The empty weight is 1,000 lb and the gross weight is 1,350 lb, giving a useful load of about 350 lb. Fuel capacity is 18.5 gallons; with full fuel, the payload is listed at about 527 lb (239 kg).
Performance: It can hover in ground effect up to about 7,000 ft (2,134 m) and out of ground effect up to about 5,000 ft (1,524 m).
Operational history: By January 2013 there was one example—the 2001 prototype—registered in the United States with the FAA.
