Hansen is a gray American Thoroughbred racehorse, born April 23, 2009, in Kentucky. He was bred and owned by Dr. Kendall E. Hansen, is by Tapit out of Stormy Sunday (Sir Cat), and was trained by Michael J. Maker with Ramon Dominguez often riding. Known as "White Lightning" for his coat whitening unusually fast, Hansen had a light two-year-old season in 2011 but found big success with two wins at Turfway Park, then the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs, where he beat Union Rags. He was named the American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt for 2011.

As a 3-year-old, Hansen won the Grade III Gotham Stakes. His Blue Grass Stakes appearance drew controversy when his owner dyed his tail blue as promotion; the dye was removed and he finished second to Dullahan. He ran in the 2012 Kentucky Derby, finishing ninth, and later won the Iowa Derby. A tendon tear ended his racing career in September 2012, and he began stud duties at Ashford Stud in 2013. In October 2013 he was sold to interests in South Korea.

His first foal arrived in 2014. In 2016, Hansen’s Victory gave him his first win as a sire. Notable offspring include Fast and Accurate, winner of the 2017 Spiral Stakes, along with En Hanse, Han Sense, and others such as Lady Hansen, The Walk, Two Charley’s, and Hansenation.
