Killings of Diane Marie and John Ysmael Mollenido
Killings of Diane Marie and John Ysmael Mollenido (simplified)
In January 2026, police officer Diane Marie Mollenido, 38, and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael Mollenido, were killed in the Philippines. They were last seen on January 16 after leaving Taguig to meet a car agent about selling their Toyota Innova for 450,000 pesos. Their bodies were found days later in different places: Diane’s body was recovered in Bulacan and John’s body in Tarlac.
The investigation found the motive likely involved taking the vehicle. Three suspects were arrested on January 30 in Quezon City: Pia Katrina Chua Panganiban (29), a car agent; her husband, Christian Suarez Panganiban (44), a dismissed police officer; and Gil Valdemoro Dy Jr. (41), an accomplice. Authorities said traces of blood were found at the car agent’s home using luminol tests, and the Innova was later traced to a buy-and-sell business in Baguio. A silver Toyota Fortuner found in Angeles City, Pampanga was believed to have been used to move the bodies.
Diane’s husband, John Mollenido, who was also a police officer, was initially a person of interest and later faced possible charges. Police recovered the victims’ mobile phones and about 100,000 pesos in cash from the suspects.
Autopsy results showed Diane was killed by a gunshot wound to the head near the left ear, while John died from suffocation.
Reactions and background: The Philippine National Police condemned the killings and said they would prioritize the case and support the families. Diane Gabres Mollenido was a Senior Master Sergeant in the National Capital Region Police Office, and John Ysmael was eight years old. Both were residents of Taguig.
