Kieran Moore
Kieran Michael Moore is a Canadian physician who serves as Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. Before this, he was the Medical Officer of Health for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington from 2017 to 2021, and earlier an Associate MOH there.
He earned his MD from the University of Ottawa in 1985, a Master of Public Health from Queen’s University, and a Master of Science in disaster medicine from the University of Brussels (in collaboration with the World Health Organization). He also has diplomas in sports medicine, tropical medicine, hygiene, and humanitarian assistance, and completed a Public Health and Preventive Medicine fellowship at Queen’s.
Moore is an adjunct professor at Queen’s University in the Department of Family and Emergency Medicine. He researches Lyme disease and has served on Pfizer’s Lyme Disease Advisory Board. He was program director of Queen’s Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was on Ontario’s vaccine task-force and helped oversee the vaccine rollout. He helped create the Ontario Immunization Advisory Committee to guide vaccination programs, including COVID-19 vaccines. In August 2021, Ontario rolled out a vaccine policy requiring staff and students in hospitals, community care, and schools to show proof of vaccination or undergo regular testing. He was appointed Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health in May 2021 and took office in June 2021.
