Kiiminki was a municipality in Finland’s North Ostrobothnia region. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the city of Oulu and the municipalities Haukipudas, Oulunsalo and Yli-Ii to become part of Oulu. Before the merger, Kiiminki covered about 339 square kilometers, of which around 327 km2 was water, and had about 13,320 residents (in 2012). The area spoke Finnish. The coat of arms features drawknives, symbolizing traditional woodcraft like making containers and sledges; it was designed by Oskari Jauhiainen and Olof Eriksson and approved in 1968. There is a 326-meter tall broadcasting mast in the area. Kiiminki Church was built in 1760.
