Moulton's Regiment of Militia
Moulton's Regiment of Militia, also known as the 3rd Regiment of New Hampshire Militia, was an infantry unit active from 1775 to 1783. It served under the state of New Hampshire and was led by Colonel Jonathan Moulton.
The regiment was called up in April 1775 at Hampton, New Hampshire. After the British burned Falmouth, Maine, then part of Massachusetts, the unit garrisoned the New Hampshire seacoast and kept a 24-hour watch at Little Boar’s Head in North Hampton to monitor coastal shipping and warn the area of danger.
Col. Moulton later led the regiment in the Saratoga Campaign, joining General John Stark in northern New York. For the rest of the Revolutionary War, the regiment protected New Hampshire’s seacoast.
Engagements: Bemis Heights. Notable commander: Jonathan Moulton.
