Kayo Kitada (Kitada Kayo) was born on July 7, 1978, in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan. She is a retired judo athlete who started practicing judo at age 10 and graduated from Nippon Sport Science University in 2001.

In 2002, she won gold in the -48 kg category at the Asian Games in Busan. She also earned gold medals at the Paris Super World Cup and the Hamburg World Cup, among other events.

Kitada did not compete in the Olympics or many World Championships because Ryoko Tamura dominated the sport. She finally fought in the 2005 World Championships but was defeated by Yanet Bermoy of Cuba and Alina Dumitru of Romania. She retired in April 2006. By 2010 she was coaching judo at Yoshida Dojo and Shutoku High School.
