Just Høg
Just Høg (8 September 1584 – 25 May 1646) was a Danish statesman and landowner. He was the first Hofmeister of Sorø Academy (1629–1640) and later served as Chancellor of the Realm from 1640 until his death in 1646. He owned Gjorslev Manor on Stevns.
Born at Vang, Nørresundby, he was the son of Stygge Høeg and Anne Gregersdatter Ulfstand. He studied in Aalborg and Aarhus, then abroad in Hamburg, Wittenberg, Angers, Siena and Padua. In 1612 he served on a Florentine ship against the Ottoman Navy, and in 1613 he visited Constantinople, Cyprus, Rhodes and Alexandria.
Høg held several court roles, becoming hofjunker in 1615 and drabanthøvedsmand in 1618, and he was granted a prebend at the cathedral chapter. He became Privy Counsellor in 1627. In 1629 he accompanied the king to Ulfsbäck for talks with Gustavus Adolphus. He acted as Chancellor of the Realm during Christen Thomesen Sehested’s travels in 1630–1631. When Sehested became Royal Chancellor in 1640, Høg took over as Chancellor of the Realm. He left his Sorø post and received Kalø Fief as part of the land arrangements.
In 1643 he helped represent Denmark-Norway at the Osnabrück Congress, and in 1645 he participated in negotiations with the British envoy. He bought Gjorslev Manor in 1630 and expanded the estate. He married Anne Lunge in 1628, and they had two sons, Just Høg and Stygge Høg. He died on 25 May 1646.
