Julius Augustus Lemcke
Julius Augustus Lemcke (1832 – January 22, 1909) was an American politician and businessman who served as the 22nd Treasurer of Indiana. He held the office from February 9, 1887, to February 9, 1891, during Governor James A. Mount’s administration. He was a Republican, following John J. Cooper and was succeeded by Albert Gall.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Lemcke later moved to Indiana. In Evansville, he built a successful career as a businessman, owning a steamboat and a hotel, and he also built the Lemcke Building.
Lemcke wrote a memoir titled Reminiscences of an Indianian, sharing his life from Posey County to broader experiences. He died in Evansville, Indiana, and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.
