Jose Rodolfo Galvele
José Rodolfo Galvele (March 10, 1937 – July 31, 2011) was an Argentine chemist known for his work on corrosion. He studied how intergranular corrosion affects aluminum-copper alloys and how metals develop pits, and he proposed a mechanism for stress corrosion cracking. He earned degrees from the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Cambridge. Galvele served as the first dean of Instituto Sabato from 1993 to 2007. He received several awards, including the Konex Platinum Award (2003), the NACE Whitney Award (1999), the Corrosion Science TP Hoar Award (1981 and 1987), the Evans Award from the Institute of Corrosion (1999), and the Pistocchi Award (1972). He was born in Buenos Aires and is buried in La Chacarita Cemetery.
