José Alfredo Lorente Castillo, known as José Alfredo, is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter born on January 27, 1994, in Mayagüez. He grew up mainly in San Germán with his parents and showed musical talent early, singing in his school choir and in local contests. He was the lead singer of the band Secret Files.

He became popular in Puerto Rico and in countries like Spain, Argentina, Peru, and Venezuela with songs such as Mirame Bien, Como Estás, Autosuficiente and Bumbeo. He has also performed for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Puerto Rico.

His first single, “¿Cómo Estás?”, was released in 2010 and gained attention in Spain and South America. It was produced in Puerto Rico and released on iTunes in July 2010. His first studio EP, Valiente, had five songs written by him and reached No. 20 on Amazon’s best-seller list. He followed with the single “Me Enamoré,” and his music began to chart on radio and in Billboard.

In 2014 he released the album Hay Otros Mundos Pero Estan En Mi Cabeza, which includes a collaboration with Martin Ricca on “Hoy Gano Yo.” The single “Mariposas de Papel” did well in Venezuela. In 2015 he released “Fugitivos” with Idol Puerto Rico winner Marileyda Hernandez and signed with Planeta Mix Records. The single “Bumbeo” came out in 2016, the same year he released a Greatest Hits album, Trayectoria, with new tracks “Bumbeo” and “Toda La Noche.”

Later in 2016, he worked with Fundacion CAP to raise money for kids with cancer and released a Christmas single for the foundation. After a brief break, he released “Dejame Entrar,” the first single from the album T.R.E.S., which found fans in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. The follow-up singles were “Lobo” and “Polos Opuestos.” T.R.E.S was recorded in Spain and Puerto Rico with producer Siko Ruiz.

After the death of his grandmother, he released “Cataclismo” and performed at Pride in San Juan. In 2020 he joined Natalia Lugo and Marileyda to release the charity single “Yo Llegaré” for Rayito de Esperanza. He later released a tribute to his grandmother, “Alguien Cuida De Mi.” In 2021 he announced his second album, Hierba Mala, which entered the Latin best-seller lists in Puerto Rico and the United States.
