Jonathan Hole
Jonathan Hole (August 13, 1904 – February 11, 1998) was an American actor whose career covered five entertainment genres over 65 years. He was born in Eldora, Iowa, and grew up in Des Moines. He finished North High School and attended Drake University. He started in vaudeville in the 1920s and worked in New York stage productions from 1924 to 1934, later performing with stock theater companies around the country.
He did radio work in Iowa and major cities like New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles, and briefly used the last name Cole while in Chicago. In 1951 he began appearing in films, acting in about 36 feature-length movies, including A Man Called Peter (1955) and The Graduate (1967). He also had a long television career, starting in 1951, with about 200 appearances on 121 shows and TV movies. He often played comic clerks, managers, or other small bureaucrats. He appeared multiple times on Dragnet, Green Acres, Maverick, and Perry Mason, and also appeared on Batman, The Real McCoys, and The Andy Griffith Show. His last screen appearance was in 1990's Silhouette.
Hole married actress Elizabeth Jane "Betty Hanna" Hanawalt in 1931, and they had three children: David Jon Hole, Jennifer Jane Hole, and Jonathan Foreman Hole. He died in North Hollywood, California, at age 93 and is buried at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
