Jonathan Betz

Jonathan Edward Betz was born in Dallas, Texas. He studied at Syracuse University and is a journalist and news anchor. He is a Richardson High School graduate and now works for China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Beijing, hosting evening programs The World Today and The Link.

Betz began his TV career at WWL-TV in New Orleans, where he rode out Hurricane Katrina from inside the city and provided extensive coverage. He later worked at WFAA-TV in Dallas as a reporter and fill-in anchor, covering major events such as the West plant explosion, the Fort Hood shooting, and the Joplin tornado.

He joined Al Jazeera America at its launch, serving as weekend evening anchor, weekday fill-in anchor, and field reporter. In 2017 he moved to CGTN, continuing his role on the air and in the field. Betz has earned several awards, including two regional Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award. He was part of teams that won the Alfred I. duPont Award and the George Foster Peabody Award for Katrina coverage, and he reported from the flood zone during Hurricane Isaac in 2012 with early live dispatches that were widely shared.
