Chamber of Advisors (Mejlis el-Musteshērīn), also called the Chamber of Councillors, was Tunisia’s upper house of Parliament. It was created by a constitutional amendment in 2002 and began operating in 2005. It existed until March 23, 2011, and was replaced by a unicameral Assembly of the Representatives of the People under the 2014 constitution. Members served six-year terms and the chamber had two-thirds the size of the Chamber of Deputies. The 2005 initial chamber had 126 members: 71 chosen by the Chamber of Deputies and local councils, 14 appointed by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), and 41 appointed by the President. The UGTT boycotted the 14 seats, leaving them vacant. Among the members, 8 women were appointed by the Chamber of Deputies and 7 women by the President. Mekki Aloui served as the last acting president, taking office on February 7, 2011.
